InterArch: the future of archaeological spaces

Herbert Ortner,

Have you ever imagined how it would be to see an archaeological space during its flourishing period through an interactive guided tour designed personally for you? InterArch is here to make the fantasy a reality.

The InterArch project, wanting to answer to the needs of a fast changing society which integrates technology into culture more and more, will be focusing on the creation of an application which will give contemporary visitors the possibility to create a personalized tour, that activates more than one senses always keeping the visitor connected with his surrounding environment. The project aims to create a tour app with physical and digital tours in archaeological spaces. Its mission is to highlight these spaces through an experiential process by using Augmented Reality (AR).

The application’s first design and implementation will use as its pilot space the ancient city of Messene. Messene flourished during ancient times offering us today a wide heritage space full of monuments. Also, it is a space still untouched from later inclusions and modern society build in a beautiful Mediterranean landscape.

Diadrasis in cooperation with the Interior Design Lab, the Ancient Messene Research Center and the Ephorate of Antiquities of Messenia and with the cofounding of Greece and the European Union starts the implementation of InterArch in the context of the program «Research – Create – Innovate».
